Prefab. The Secret to the Labor Shortage.

Companies across the AEC ecosystem, from general contractors to structural engineering are having difficulty filling positions. While there are numerous channels to strengthen candidate pipelines, such as university and labor union partnerships, these each take significant time and resources and new hires tend to leave after a short time period. Numerous studies show that 40% of the AEC industry will retire in the next decade, which results in even slower project delivery and higher construction costs.

How can we combat this? McKinsey calls for 4 different strategies to address this challenge.

  1. Upskill and reskill workers
  2. Improve productivity across the     value chain
  3. Revisit the owner relationship
  4. Coordinate better


The good news is, as a prefab or modular builder, you have more ability to address the labor shortage in each of these areas, empower with technology to attract and retain talent, and stay ahead of the curve.
